net magazine App Reviews

Good effort!

So I love .net in print, every issue is an experience... And the designers love their tiny type and creative layouts, so it cant be easy to translate that to an app on a 10" screen. And I sincerely appreciate that each issue is less than half of the in store price! But setting the excellent content aside for a moment, the app is almost painful to use. All the things that make the print mag great like the multi page spreads and frequent inserts hamper the digital experience badly. I find myself zooming way in to be able to read the text comfortably, and then quickly loosing the flow of the content. Its ironic how much all these and other issues (in a magizine on online design) exemplify difficulties in translating from one medium to the other. And just because I can only be objective for so long: Acceleromiter support? Really??? YOU CANT EVEN CLICK ON A URL TO OPEN IT IN THE BROWSER!!! Nor can you copy and paste it! And they add acceleromiter support... Thanks.

Great in print, poor attempt at digital!

Ive had a subscription to your printed .net magazine and Ive bought it off the shelf at book stores. This digital copy is far less expensive than buying it off a booksellers shelf (usually around $15 USD) and as a print subscription ($125 USD for 13 issues), which I appreciate. However, the actual iPhone/iPad app leaves a lot to be desired. The UI is terrible. There is no integration with Safari, to easily navigate to a web link. The advertisement space is annoying in the mobile environment and takes up way too much real estate. Finally, had I known there would not be any way to get the disks, included with the printed edition and that I would not have access to the web site, as I do with a print subscription, I never would have subscribed to it via the App Store. I can tell you this much, I will not renew, until these options are made available.

What a joke

The app is free, but the charge you for reading the magazines. Dont waste your time. This is like getting a car for free and then being charged to drive on the roads

I wldnt even give it a star @ all, what Im reading others reviews?? Not good & a deletion is in orde

So keep ur good ole app,as I now delete it.charges get real,as others might not catch it.thanks for your review on the car story..

So Ironic! What a shame!

.net has published so many articles on responsive design, yet theyre very own ipad/iPhone magazine is perhaps the least responsive Ive encountered. Awful!!! Cant click on a web link? Really!!! Dont waste youre money

Why is this in my updates?

Ive never installed the app and never will, yet an update constantly shows up in my updates. Seems a bit shady to me...

Needs some fixes

Great magazine but the iPhone app wont restore my purchases. Not going to rebuy. And to those complaining about how the app is free but you have to pay for the issues? No Duh. Its the same way with any magazine. Dont give bad reviews based on your inability to research.

wth

I cant even get this to download to my iPhone

Do not buy this

I purchased one issue of .Net magazine and until now was not able to read it on my iPhone. I tried everything including full reinstallation of the app. So I raised official claim and all I got back is advise to ask Apple to refund money... GRRR... Really bad customer support. I deleted it with clean loss... Be aware!

Im not one to write reviews, BUT...

This is well worth the time to write one. Before, Net magazines digital version was just a PDF document that you could zoom and click links. (Kinda crappy considering the context of the magazine). But now, its completely interactive, with all the same great content. Im glad that Im a subscriber now. :)

New version is grat

I actually find the new version is better, easier to browse and read, definitely worth to subscribe this time!

Very Engaging

Great display of beautifully designed articles. I dont know if .Net Magazine deserves the credit for its artfully displayed content, or the app is the reason that the magazine is such a great reading experience. Regardless- it works. The only flaw Ive found, if you follow a link into the built in browser and then click "Done", you are returned to the beginning of the article, rather than the point in the article where you touched the link- so, 4 out of 5 stars. The .Net app presents great content, animation and interactivity for a magazine that is well worth reading?

Was good, but lost something

This was a great eMagazine until the last update. I like to read in landscape view and it used to work great, but after the update it only works in portrait view, no good at all. I will be canceling my subscription on its next renewal because of it.

Yes.

Great magazine, and a great interactive port to the iPad.

Need to update for the larger iPhone screen

.Net really needs to get it together and update this app for the larger iPhone screen size on my 1+ year old iPhone 5. Patience has its limits for anyone, especially since I just paid for my second year with this annoyance.

K

Only reviewing so I can download my issue

Nice

Not only is this mag informative but it coexists nicely with the iPad. Good work guys.

I think its great

The contents are fabulous. I found a lot of people complained the user experience, actually I dont think its bother me at all. I like the way of contents displayed. Whatever, the lower price than print mag is awesome!

its like a virus

Like the old aol icon on windows machines. Dont even look unless you are sure you want its notifications forever...

App ruins magazine experience

It pains me to type this because I really enjoy this magazine but the app is really bad. It is always crashing and requires you to deal with it delicately. Please fix. Experience is bad.
